  • The kaiser was strong politically (even though he was elected parliament)
  • The kaiser ignored parliament's wishes
  • Made opposition grow as the people wanted a democracy
• what were the Economic and social problems

  • Many workers in the new factories and mines were unhappy with low wages, poor conditions and high costs of living
  • More workers joined trade unions to try and force the kaiser to change things
• Why did the socialist party become popular?

  • Some were very extreme and even wanted to start a revolution to overthrow the Kaiser
  • They were supported by the workers, this was a major problem for the government
