Strength: There is research to support the theory. In a study conducted by Hudson, both black and white South Africans were shown an image, and were asked which animal was the man in the picture trying to spear. Different cultures gave different answers. This shows how perception is nurture (learned), as people perceive the real world in various ways, based on their culture/upbringing.

Weakness: There is a contradicting theory to Gregory's. In GIbson's theory, he suggests that perception is innate (nature), rather than nurture.
  • A03 Evaluation
Weakness: Gregory's theory cannot explain how perception can actually start. Based on his suggestions, if we use prior learning to perceive, how are we able to first start perceiving, if we have no past experiences? This shows how there are flaws in his theory.
