  1. add positive and negative signs (+ - = +)
  2. count positive and negative signs
  3. smallest total is overall test result
  4. use number of participants of scores used on the critical value table
• observed value is smaller or equal to critical value

  difference is significant, accept alternative hypothesis and reject null hypothesis
