Loudspeakers

Cards (9)

  • How do loudspeakers and headphones produce soundwaves?
By using the variations in an alternating current
  • Explain how this loudspeaker produces sound waves
The current that travels through the coil experiences a force , due to the magnetic field , which causes the speaker cone to move . The alternating current causes the direction of the force to alternate which makes the speaker cone oscillate and create sound waves
  • What happens if you increase the electrical power / size of the current in a loudspeaker?
A larger force will be produced , so the cone will oscillate with a higher amplitude and produce louder soundwaves
  • What does the frequency of the sound wave match?
The frequency of the alternating current
  • In a loudspeaker, what will a higher frequency produce?
    A higher pitched sound
  • In a loudspeaker, what will a lower frequency produce?
    A lower pitched sound
  • What does the size of the speaker affect?
How quickly or slowly the cone can oscillate
  • In a loudspeaker , what is a large cone better suited for?
    Low - pitched sounds
  • In a loudspeaker , what is a large cone better suited for?
    High - pitched sounds
