  • Socialization is a lifelong process where individuals develop a self-concept and prepare for roles, which in turn shape personality.
  • Socialization is the process by which humans acquire a sense of self or a social identity, develop their human capacities, learn the culture(s) of the society in which they live, and learn expectations for behavior.
  • Socialization is not a one-way process; it involves resisting, ignoring, negotiating, and accommodating agents of socialization.
  • The family is the basic unit of society and the primary social institutions or social group where one is born, serving as the main link between the child and society.
  • The peer group is an informal grouping of two or more members, more or less of the same age, the neighborhood, or school is called peer group, friends, clique, gang, or barkada.

  • Socialization is not simply molding an individual according to a standard social pattern, as he or she is afforded some leeway in his or her action.
