• All Carbohydrates are made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen
• Monosaccharides are simple sugars and they can be classified by the number of carbon atoms they contain.
• Triose sugars have 3 carbon atoms, 6 hydrogens and 3 oxygens
• Pentose sugars have 5 carbon atoms, 10 hydrogens and 5 oxygens
• Hexose sugars have 6 carbon atoms, 12 hydrogens and 6 oxygens
• monosaccharides are normally sweat, crystalised and soluble
