  • in 1860 there were 130,000 cattle in the west, all in Nebraska and Kansas. By 1880, there were 4.5 million cattle, half of those were in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Dakota. They all ate the grass
  • buffalo became hard to find - the cattle were eating all the grass and not spreading the seeds like the buffalo did
  • As buffalo became hard to find - some IP went to work as cowboys. This mean they had to leave their traditional lifestyles and live a settled lifestyle where they worked for money and depended on ranches for employment
