hypothesis

Cards (7)

  • Types of hypothesis include directional, non-directional, and null.
  • Directional hypothesis states the direction of the difference or relationship and is used when earlier research has suggested a particular outcome.
  • An example of a directional hypothesis is: Patients who take anxocalm will have less anxiety attacks a week compared to patients who take the placebo.
  • Non-directional hypothesis does not state the relationship or difference between the variables and is used when there is no previous research.
  • An example of a non-directional hypothesis is: Patients who take anxocalm will have a difference in number of anxiety attacks a week then the ones taking the placebo.
  • Null hypothesis states that there will be no significant difference or relationship between variables.
  • To check if a hypothesis is valid, the independent and dependent variables should be clear and measurable, the relationship between independent and dependent variables should be stated, and the variables should have been operationalised.
