  • The Big Three leaders all agreed that Germany had started the war when it invaded neutral Belgium and should bear the blame and therefore deserved punishment. However, there was disagreement over how much and what kind of punishment
  • In his 14 points, Wilson had promised to create an independent Poland. During the 19th century, Polish people had found themselves controlled by Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Russia - Britain and France agreed. The Allies also agreed to give independence to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia ( Germany had taken these states from Russia in 1918)
  • The Big Three agreed that Germany's colonies should be taken away. Lloyd George was keen to take control of German colonies in Africa, but Wilson was against the idea of other countries adding to their colonies. Instead, the German colonies became mandates, controlled by the League of Nations. Britain and France accepted this because the League of Nations gave the responsibility of ruling these areas to its leading members - essentially meaning Britain and France had control over them
