Homeostasis

  • Homeostasis is the process of maintaining constant internal environment in the body.
  • Homeostasis is maintained by the body being able to detect any change from the set point and then change this deviation.
  • Tissue and blood form the internal environment.
    1. things that should be kept constant: Temparature, pH level, CO2 and O2 concentration , electrolytes, glucose, H2O concentration
  • A major part that controls homeostasis is the negative feedback system.
  • Negative feedback system: a mechanism where a change from the set point of any factor is corrected by bringing a hange in the opposite direction.
  • parts of the negative feedback system include: receptor, control centre and effector
  • receptor: detects deviation from set point
  • control centre: send out corrective mechanisms
  • effector: corrects the change
