  no - its a passive process
• what does hypertonic mean?

  the solution is concentrated (contains very little water)
• what does hypotonic mean?

  the solution is dilute (contains a lot of water)
• what does isotonic mean?

  there is no difference in concentration and the movement of water remains constant
