What is white light?
A mixture of all the different
colours
What happens if we pass white light through a prism?
It splits into a
spectrum
What does each colour within the visible spectrum have?
Its own
narrow
band of
wavelength
and
frequency
What happens when an opaque object appears coloured?
It is
reflecting
light of that particular wavelength and
absorbing
other wavelengths
What happens to an object if it reflects all wavelengths equally?
It appears
white
.
What happens to an object if all wavelengths are absorbed?
It appears
black
.
How do coloured filters work?
They
absorb
some wavelengths and
transmit
(allowing through) other wavelengths
A colour filter does not change
colour
If the filter is the same colour as the object, the object will appear its
true
colour
What happens if a red an blue striped object is seen through a red filter?
The object will appear
red
and
black
because the filter will allow the
red
light through but not the
blue
light
What happens if a red and blue striped light is seen through a filter?
The object appears completely
black
as the filter will not allow
red
or
blue
light to pass through it
