LAS 6 - States of Matter

Cards (11)

  • The Three States of matter are: Solid, Liquid & Gas
  • Solid - Right and Compact, generally compressible & has definite space and volume
  • Liquid - has definite volume but no definite shape, almost incompressible & flows and diffuses slowly
  • Gas - has no definite shape and volume, compressible & flows and diffuses easily
  • Adding heat to matter makes the particles more faster
  • The particles of matter have spaces between them
  • All matter is made up of particles
  • Surface tension - the property of the sruface of a liquid that makes it resist an external force
  • Capillary Action - results from the competiton between cohesive forces and adhesive forces
  • Vaporization - is the transformation of liquid to gas
  • Boiling point - the tempreture at which the vapor pressure of the liquid becomes equal to the external atmosphereic pressure
