• the more enzyme molecules in a solution the more likely a substrate molecule is to collide with one and form an enzyme-substrate complex

  increasing concentration increases the rate of reaction
• if the amount of substrate is limited there comes a point where there's more enzyme molecules than available substrates

  • so adding more has no further effect
