Assessment of Sit to Stand

Cards (6)

  • Front view - sitting:
    • level of dress/undress
    • where to stand when assessing
    • look at feet positioning - angle of tibial shaft
    • look at knee positioning - angle of shaft of tibia and shaft of femur
    • look at trunk positioning - angle of acromion process and its alignment with ASIS, check if nose is at the middle of the acromion process line
  • Side view - sitting:
    • important angle
    • look at if heels are 10 cm behind knee
    • look at if thigh is parallel to the seat
    • look at if the acromion process is perpendicular to ASIS
  • Back view - sitting:
    • positioning of feet
    • acromion process should be parallel and even
    • can check ear lobes to see if theyre in line
  • Front view - during movement:
    • should see dorsiflexors working
    • angulation of knee
    • symmetry and weightbearing of feet
  • Side view - during movement:
    • Tibial shaft should move forward
    • is hip flexion occurring whilst the trunk is extended
    • transition into extension via knee, hip and ankle
    • stabilisation occurs
    • on the way down:
    • eccentric release of hip extensors, knee extensors and plantarflexors
    • arc pattern should occur going up and down
  • Back view - during movement:
    • should see symmetry of head staying in the middle and shoulder moving at the same time
