  • The veterinary Surgeon's Act - 1966 = makes provisions for vet profession management, registration of surgeons/practitioners, regulates education/conduct and cancels/suspends registration for misconduct.
  • MRCVS = member of the royal college of veterinary surgeons.
  • Veterinary surgery = art/science of vet surgeons and medicine without prejudice.
    A) diagnosis.
    B) advice.
    C) medical/surgical treatment.
    D) surgical operations.
  • The Veterinary Exemptions Order - 2015, s. 19 = minor medical treatment, farriers, physiotherapy and emergency first aid to save a life or relieve pain.
  • Invasive treatment is done by vets only!
  • The Farriers Registration Act - 1975 = registered farriers, apprentices covered, vet surgeons, trainee vet surgeons with supervision and emergency first aid.
  • The Animal Welfare Act - 2006 = suitable environment, normal behaviour, appropriate housing and free from pain/injury/suffering.
  • The Veterinary Medicines Regulations - 2013 = controls: manufacture/authorisation/marketing/surveillance of drugs, approval process and amending/replacing/revoking medicines.
  • The Veterinary Medicines Regulations - 2013 was updated in 2020, March 2023 has proposed changes and they regulate medication for horses entering the food chain.
  • Trade in animals and related products regulations - 2011 = import/export of animals + products, travel rules and records/ID/movement amendment from EU (2019).
  • Transport legislation/requirements = export health certificate (EHC), disease testing, ID documents, EU border rules, export welfare declaration, county parish holding number (CPH) and notify customs.
  • Disease testing = equine infectious anaemia - test within 90 days of temporary travel (less than 90 days) and test within 30 days for permanent travel.
  • Residency/isolation requirements for competing = 40 days prior to travel, vet supervision for 30/40 days and need to be kept away from animals of differing health statuses for 40 days.
  • Equine ID = horse passport, supplementary travel ID from the vet with an EHC and is valid for 1 trip (there/back).
  • The new common health entry document (CHED) is replacing the import notification (IMP) - to be registered 1 working day before arriving in GB.
