  • the cognitive explanation says that impaired informational processing causes the dysfunctional thought processes of schizophrenia

    • Delusions tend to happen because of an egocentric bias (a tendency to relate events to onself) this coupled with faulty info processing causes the onset of delusions
    • Patients are also impervious to reality testing and as a result believe these delusions must be true

    Hallucinates are caused by over sensitivity to auditory stimuli (hyper -vigilance)
    and also a failure to meta-represent. Eg. in auditory hallucinations person fails to recognise the voice is internal and that their thoughts are their own. Instead they might believe it is someone else talking. With this comes a refusal to accept that it is not true
