  • A hyperplasia is an increase in cell number; overgrowth in response to some type of stimulus. 
  • Tumor: Swelling or growth, originally used in the description of the swelling related to inflammation.
  • Benign: having limited growth; noncancerous
  • Malignant: deadly or progressing to death; cancerous 
  • Encapsulated: enclosed in a capsule; term used to describe benign tumors.
  • Cancer: any malignant tumor
  • Metastasize: to move or spread.
  • Metastatic: spreads from a site or origin to a secondary site in the body.
