• Since 2010, US has provided over $5.6b in aid
• Disaster aid:

  • UN, Oxfam, recross - 1.5m displaced. 5 years later, 800,000 still displaced.
• Healthcare services have been expanded - maternal and child health services now available for over 1.2m people
• Increased enrollment - 240,000 children. However, little industry means large brain drain
• Haiti:

  • Weak institutions, little regulation, poor governance.
• Oxfam workers withheld aid from women unless they had sex.
• Paid 180m Francs for independence from France - bankrupted them
• NGOs have higher paid jobs, so skilled locals work for them not the government. Little government reform
• Aid money spent on American contractors, not local ones
• GINI coefficient - 0.41. Moderate wealth inequality
• Recieved $38b in aid since 1955
