ANATOMY

• Digestive system:

  • Digestive tract - mouth to anus; also called alimentary tract or canal
  • Accessory glands - glands located outside the digestive tract that secrete fluids into it
• Digestive tract - respective accessory organs (in order):

  • Oral Cavity (mouth) - salivary glands
  • Pharynx (throat) - tonsils
  • Esophagus
  • Stomach
  • Small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum) - liver, gallbladder, pancreas
  • Large intestine (cecum, colon, rectum, anal canal)
  • Anus
• Gastrointestinal (GI) tract - only refers to the stomach and intestine
