  • The Executive Office consists of close advisors to the President, including the Chief of Staff who handles the President's schedule and takes care of small things, the Press Secretary who meets with the press and represents the President, and the Speech Writer.
  • The Cabinet consists of 15 Departments, each with a Secretary as the cabinet member leader, such as the Department of Justice with the Attorney General as the Secretary.
  • The Department of State is responsible for foreign Policy, managing US embassies, ambassadors, consulates, and counsels.
  • An Ambassador is the highest ranking US official in a foreign country.
  • An Embassy is the residence and office of the ambassador.
  • A Consul represents the US economic interest.
  • A Consulate is the consul's office.
  • The Department of Defense is responsible for the nation's armed forces, the Pentagon, and advises the president on military affairs.
  • The Department of Homeland Security was established after 9/11 to protect us from terrorist attacks and handles relief efforts after natural disasters.
