Cards (12)

  • Neurons are nerve cells that process and transmit messages throughout the body.
  • Sensory neurons carry messages from the PNS to the CNS.
  • Motor neurons connect the CNS to the muscles and glands.
  • Relay neurons connect the sensory and motor neurons.
  • Sensory neurons have a cell body with two stems on either side, each stem ends in small branches called dendrites.
  • Soma:
The cell body of a neuron, containing the nucleus and cytoplasm.
  • Nucleus: contains genetic material and controls cell activities.
  • Dendrites: Receive information from other neurons and carry it to the cell body.
  • Myelin sheath: To speed up the process of the message moving through the axon
  • Node of Ranvier: Makes the signals go faster and jumps from gap
  • Axon: The long, thin fibers that carry nerve impulses away from the cell body.
  • Terminal button: They communicate with the next neuron
