Pavlov 1927

Cards (12)

  • What type of conditioning did Pavlov use?
    Classical Conditioning
  • What was his aim?
To look at reflex behaviour and see if he could create pathways in the brain
  • What was the unconditioned stimulus he used?
    The dog‘s food
  • What was the unconditioned response?
    Salivation
  • What was the neutral stimulus?
    The bell
  • What was the unconditioned response?
    No specific response
  • When the UCS (food) and the bell (neutral stimulus) were paired together, what was the response?
    Unconditioned response- salivation
  • What was the conditioned stimulus?
    The bell
  • What was the conditioned response?
    Salivation
  • What were the results?
The more similarity the dogs found between the neutral stimulus and the conditioned stimulus, the greater the amount of drooling
  • Give 2 strengths of the study
1.Controlled environment: results are objective And scientifically credible
2.Reliability: repeated many classical conditioning experiments on dogs and continually found the CS would produce CR
  • Give 2 weaknesses of the study
1.Eco-logical validity: created an artificial environment of a chamber with most stimuli being controlled
2.Had to make assumptions about what was happening in the cerebral cortex due to not having fMRI scans- hard to generalise to humans
