  • FOLLICLE STIMULATING HORMONE (FSH)
    • Causes egg to MATURE in the OVARY
    • Secreted from the PITUITARY gland
    • Travels to the OVARIES & TRIGGERS the production of OESTROGEN
    • There are HIGH levels of FSH before the OESTROGEN is produced, but the OESTROGEN produced INHIBITS FSH and produces LH
  • LUTEINISING HORMONE (LH)
    • Secreted by the PITUITARY gland
    • Causes the MATURE egg to be RELEASED
    • This is called OVULATION
  • OESTROGEN:
    • Secreted by the OVARIES
    • Causes the lining of UTERUS to DEVELOP
    • INHIBITS the release of FSH
    • STIMULATES the release of LH
  • PROGESTERONE:
    • MAINTAINS the lining of UTERUS (keeps it THICK so that an egg can IMPLANT)
    • INHIBITS the release of FSH & LH (eggs cannot MATURE and be RELEASED)
    • No FERTILISATION- progesterone levels FALL (period occurs)
