Active Transport

• Moves substances from an area with a lower concentration to an area of higher concentration through a semi-permeable membrane
• Against a concentration gradient
• Needs ATP energy = cells need oxygen and glucose to produce ATP through aerobic respiration
• Active transport will stop working with no oxygen or glucose, and may speed up if given more of either
• low to high
• Plants often use to extract ions from soil
• ATP is produced in mitochondria
