What is a magnetic field?
The area around a magnet where forces are felt
How do the magnetic field lines differ between unlike pole attraction and like pole repulsion?
In unlike pole attraction, the magnetic field lines go directly between the north and south poles
In like pole repulsion, the magnetic field lines curve outwards away from the like poles
How does the magnetic field strength vary across the image?
The magnetic field strength is strongest near the north and south poles
The field strength decreases with distance from the poles
The field lines are more dense near the poles, indicating higher field strength
What does a strong magnetic field indicate about the force experienced?
Greater force experienced
How does unlike pole attraction work in magnets?
The
north pole
of one magnet is attracted to the
south pole
of another magnet
This creates a strong
attractive force
between the magnets
What indicates the strength of a magnetic field?
Density
of
magnetic field lines
How does like pole repulsion work in magnets?
The north pole of one magnet is repelled by the north pole of another magnet
The south pole of one magnet is repelled by the south pole of another magnet
This creates a strong repulsive force between the magnets
