Some Greek soldiers were killed in a small fight on the border between Greece andBulgaria.
The Greeks were angry
They invaded Bulgaria
Bulgaria asked the League for help
What did the League do?
The council of the League met
It condemned the Greeks, and told them to leave Bulgaria
What was the outcome?
The Bulgaria government sent orders to its army not to fight back
The Greeks did as the League said and left Bulgaria
What were the successes of this dispute?
Bulgariaappealed to the league when it was invaded, itwas therefore following the league’s processes.
It was not responding in an aggressive manner, it was using the LoN as a deciding body - to try and keep the peace.
The league appealed to both countries to stop fighting and they both obeyed. (cooperation and reducing aggression)
The league sent a commissionto investigate the incident.
The Commission found in favour of Bulgaria so the Greeks were ordered to leave Bulgaria and were forced to pay compensation.
The Greeks obeyed.
What were the failures of the dispute?
Bulgaria incident raised questions about the league’s fairness because Greece argued that smaller countries (eg. Greece) were not being treated fairly relative to larger countries such as Italy - larger countries they argued seemed to be getting away with more aggression.
