  • Types of prosthesis:
    • below knee prosthesis
    • above knee prosthesis

  • Types of feet:
    • rocker foot - old
    • artificial foot - more practical, can wear shoes, can be covered in stockings
  • Below Knee Prosthesis:
    • amputated limb is covered in cling film, which is then covered in plaster of Paris to make a complete mold that is used as a liner
    • foot acts as a shock absorber and allows for plantarflexion
    • cuff to hold the prosthesis in place
    • metal pole to hold the weight
  • Above Knee Prosthesis:
    • foot and metal pole are the same as the below knee prosthesis
    • has an automatic knee
    • has a TES belt that wraps around the waist to help lift the leg up
  • Through Knee Prosthesis:
    • plaster of paris mold
    • automatic knee
    • held on by femoral condyles
