• 1. State the role of soda lime in this experiment, explain why it is needed: Soda lime is used to absorb the carbon dioxide produced by the organism respiring.
• 2) State the role of the syringe in this experiment, explain why it

  is needed: The role of the syringe in the experiment is to measure the volume of oxygen used in the reaction. This is needed to work out the rate of respiration for an organism.
• 4) Describe how you would calculate the rate of respiration of

  organism in a given time period:

  Measure the volume produced in a set time.

  Then repeat 3 times to get an average then use the average volume and dive by time. This will gibe you the rate of respiration of a set organism.
