• serial dilution - progressive dilution from original sample
• if within linearity, use lowest dilution because it will have least error
• serial dilutions - multiple progressive dilution start from one straight dilution
• purpose of serial dilutions - get to large dilution quickly, to save/conserve diluent
• straight dilution - adding diluent to sample
• serial dilution - progressive dilution from original sample
