William named the game Mintonette.
Dr.Alfred Halstead eventually changed its name to Volleyball due to the way the players hit the ball.

-The act of serving the ball by tossing it overhead and striking it above the head level.

-it is the act of putting the ball in play by hitting the ball toward the opponent's courtside.
PASS
it is also called reception.

can be underhand or overhand, with dig as the underhand pass and the toss or set as the overhead pass
DIG PASS
-The process of hindering the ball from landing on the court's ground when the opponent performs a strike or an attack.
BLOCK
-The act of preventing the opponent's attempt to strike or attack.

SET OR TOSS
-The act of putting the ball into a position where the attacker can strike the ball hard toward the opponent's court.
