  occurs when additional set(s) of genes replicate

  -> additional region of genes may be added within the chromosome or at one end of the chromosome or become attached to another chromosome
• may affect phenotype by altering gene dosage
• more gene copies -> excess proteins made -> phenotypic abnormalities
