• why does body temp need to be 37 degrees

  • below - activity slows
  • above - enzymes start to denature
• where is tge thermoregulatory centre and what does it do?

  in the hypothalamus and is a thermostat for the body
• what detect temperature and send it to the brain

  receptors
• if the body is too hot or cold what does the brain do ?

  sends signals to either cool or warm
• what happens in the body to warm it ?


  vasoconstriction - constricts blood vessils which lie between surface of the skin so less heat energy is lost to the surroundings

  contract effector muscles ( layer of insulating air ) - harder to lose heat from skin

  shiver - releaces energy from respiration - heat as a waste poduct
• what does the body do to cool down?

  effector muslces relax - air lays flat and doesnt trap heat

  vasodilation - blood vessils expand to let more heat energy to be transfered to the surroundings

  sweat - as it evaporates it takes heat energy away with it
