  • why some people are less likely to take part in politics - black people
For much of the history of the USA black people have been
mistreated, abused and also denied the right to vote.
Though they now have that right many feel that the people
that they can vote are mostly white and so don’t know what
it’s like to be black or how to make things better. For example in the 2020 elections, turnout for Black people was roughly 8% lower than White people.
  • why some people are less likely to take part in politics - young people
Many young people in America may not vote as they feel it
doesn’t matter because politicians haven’t dealt with issues
relevant to young people such as the costs of health care,
university or school shootings. For example, in the 2024 election young people had a 42% turnout, which was lower than the 2020
    election.
  • why some people are less likely to take part in politics - uneducated people
The US political system is very complicated and
registration forms may put people off. With so many
people and roles to vote for it might be too much for less
educated people to understand what they are voting for. For example, in 2018 Mid Terms people that had not finished High School has a turnout about 47% lower than those who had a Postgraduate degree.
