  • why some people are more likely to take part in politics - white people
In the USA White people have always had the vote so it has
been more traditional to vote. They are also more likely to be
wealthy and have higher levels of education which are linked to
higher voter turnout. Also there are far more White role models
in politics than people from ethnic minorities. For example in the 2020 elections, turnout for Black people was roughly 8% lower than White people.
  • why some people are more likely to take part in politics - retired people
This may be because this generation, known as boomers, grew
up after World War 2 which was known as a fight for
democracy and freedom so voting will be very important to
them. For example, in the 2020 election, 65+ years had the highest voter turnout.
  • why some people are more likely to take part in politics - highly educated people
This is because the US political system and registration is
complex and this can be confusing for people with a lower level
of education who may choose not to become involved. Whereas
those with better education may be more likely to participate as
they may have a better understanding of what is happening in
the complex US political system. For example, in the 2020 US
Presidential elections, turnout for high school graduates was around 56% and around 78% for those with a bachelor's degree.
