  • One reason why Black and Hispanic people are more likely to experience educational inequalities is due to lack of resources. Poorer schools where Black and Hispanic are more likely to attend may have less equipment such as computers and buildings may require extensive repairs. Access to certain subjects such as STEM subjects may also be an issue leading to them falling behind their White peers. For example, school districts where students of colour are the majority have been shown to receive 15% less funding per student compared to school districts that are mostly white.   • Another reason why Black and Hispanic are more likely to experience educational inequalities is due to lack of qualified teachers. Black and Hispanic students are more likely to be taught by partially-qualified teachers with less experience compared to white students which means educational attainment will be lower. There are problems attracting and keeping qualified teachers in areas where B&H live which results in classes going untaught. According to “The 74” – America’s Education News Source, in a quarter of states, predominantly Black schools have at least twice as many novice teachers as schools serving the fewest number of Black pupils.
  • Another reason why Black and Hispanic people are more likely to educational inequalities is due to lack of discipline in schools. Black people are much more likely to attend schools where violence is common – inner-city areas where Black people tend to live have higher levels of crime and violence.
