  • The world power I have studied is the USA. It has been argued the Affordable Healthcare Act has been an effective response because it has helped reduce barriers to healthcare. In the US healthcare can be very expensive and much harder to access if you don’t have a job. The ACA (known as Obamacare) has helped to make access to healthcare easier and more affordable. For example, since 2014 the number of people uninsured in the US has fallen from around 14% to around 8% by 2023. This shows it has been an effective response.
  • Some may also argue that TANF has been successful is that it helps low-income families become financially independent by providing temporary financial support and work opportunities. The program provides cash assistance, job training, and childcare support to help families transition from welfare to employment. For example, roughly 2 million people received TANF cash assistance in 2024. This shows that TANF plays a key role in reducing poverty by supporting families while they gain the skills needed to secure stable jobs
  • Finally, it could be argued that Medicaid has been successful is that it provides essential healthcare to low-income individuals, helping to reduce health inequalities across the U.S. Medicaid covers medical services such as doctor visits, hospital stays, and preventive care for eligible individuals, including children, pregnant women, and people with disabilities. For example, in 2024, Medicaid covered roughly 72 million Americans.. This demonstrates that Medicaid plays a crucial role in ensuring that vulnerable populations receive necessary medical care.
