A
fluid
is any material in a state of
matter
which flows; it is a
liquid
or a
gas.
The more
water
above an object, then the
greater
the
force
applied and the
greater
the
pressure
exerted.
When an object is submerged partially, it will have a greater pressure on the
bottom
surface than on the
top
surface (there is more
water behind the force acting upwards). This creates an upwards resultant force called
upthrust
and this is what causes an object to
float.
