• Plantation crops play a major role in the country’s economic and social development in the form of direct and indirect sources of income and in providing livelihood and employment opportunities to a large segment of the rural communities.
• Being perennial plants, these groups of crops also significantly contribute to the protection of the environment, particularly the vast hilly farmlands where soil erosion remains a serious threat to sustainable productivity.
