• Sexual reproduction is a process that invloves the union of sex cells or gametes.
• The gametes come from two parent of opposite sexes: The male and female
• The male produces the sperm (male gamete)
• The female that produces the egg cell or ovum (female gametes)
• Sexual reproduction involves the union of gametes
• A type of cell divison called meiosis produces gametes or sex cells
• Meiosis in sperm cells is called spermatogenesis
• Meisosis in egg cells is called oogenesis
• The gametes formed by meiosis are haploid
• Humans have 46 chromosomes
• Half of the chromosomes are 23 from the father and the mother
• humans have a diploid number of chromosomes or two sets of homologous chromosomes
