  • A suspect in police detention can seek advice and assistance, if they weren't able to do so, this would break the rules in the police and criminal evidence act 1984.
  • when a suspect is detained, all their possesions are taken away from them and hey cannot access any of their documents or salary details, so the availability of free advice without being means tested is vital
  • A person facing criminal charges that could seriously effect their future should be able to instruct a lawyer to investigate those charges, obtain evidence, and if appropriate, put a defence forward on their behalf- this means that justice can be seen to be done.
