• Database Software is used to organise, manipulate and analyse data. Made up of tables organised into records and fields

  • Ability to carry out queries and produce a report
  • Add, delete and modify data in a table
• Control and Measuring Software is designed to allow a computer or microprocessor to interface with sensors
• Functions of Control and Measuring Software:

  • Measure physical quantities in the real world (e.g. Temperature)
  • Control applications by comparing sensor data with stored data and sending out signals to alter process parameters
• Apps are software which runs on mobile phones or tablets. Downloaded from an “app store” and can range from games to sophisticated software like mobile banking

  • Change brightness, contrast, saturation

  • Complex image manipulation (e.g. changing facial features)
  • Removing unwanted items
• Video Editing Software is the ability to manipulate videos produce a new video, allowing addition of titles, colour correction and altering/adding sound
• Functions of Video Editing Software:

  • Rearranging, adding or removing clips of audio or video
  • Applying colour correction, filters and other video enhancements
  • Creating transitions between clips in the video footage
• Graphics Manipulation Software allows Bitmap and Vector graphics to be manipulated and edited.
• Types of Graphics Manipulation Software:

  • Bitmap image editors alter the pixels in the image to produce a different image
  • Vector graphics editors manipulate lines, curves and text to alter the stored image as required
  • EITHER software can be chosen, depending on the original image format
