Homeostasis
is an organisms ability to regulate its
internal
conditions.
Regulate the body's internal conditions:
Internal
body temp
Blood sugar
levels
CO2
levels
Water
levels
Its important to regulate our bodys
internal
conditions so that our
enzymes
and
cells
functions well.
If conditions are not
optimal
, then our enzymes
denature
(change
shape
).
When enzymes denature this reduces the enzymes ability to
catalyse metabolic
reactions.
3 parts of the control system:
Receptors
Coordination centre
Effectors
Coordination Centre - receives information from
receptors
and sends out instructions to
effectors.
Effector
- responds to the coordination centres message by changing something in the body.
Receptor
- detects changes in the environment or inside the body.
Effector - responds to signals sent by the
coordination
centre.
Examples of effectors include
muscles
and
glands.
The coordination centres can be found in the
brain
or
spinal
cord.
