• Burgos Street - First XU building in Cagayan de Oro.
• June 29, 1927 - Fr. James T.G. Hayes was appointed as superior of the Northern Mindanao Missions; founder of Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan.
• June 1928 - Opened St. Augustines Parochial School (the first name of XU - Ateneo de Cagayan)
• Early 1933

  • Had complete elementary education
  • Creation of Diocese of Cagayan de Oro and separation from the Diocese of Zamboanga.

• June 7, 1933

  • Renamed as Ateneo de Cagayan
  • Fr. Joseph Lucas, SJ acted as director up to 1934.
• Before WW II - Moved its new location in Corrales Avenue.
• December 9, 1941 - Closed down with 614 students.
• May 2, 1942 - Ateneo de Cagayan became the headquarters of the imperial Japanese army in Mindanao (mainly Lucas Hall).
• September 9, 1944 - US air force bombed Ateneo de Cagayan.
• Fr. Edward Haggerty, SJ - Rector and military vicat to the US army forces from Borneo to Okinawa.

• August 30, 1951

  • School operation was interrupted during the eruption of Camiguin's Mt. Hibok-hibok.
  • The campus housed the people affected by Camiguin and even sponsored boxing bouts to raise funds.
• Fr. Francisco Z. Araneta, SJ

  • Was the rector that time, prayed and vowed to St. Francis Xavier that if ever the Ateneo de Cagayan will be conferred as a university before its commencement exercises on March 22, 1958, he will rename the university after the Saint.
  • Secretary of Education sent a telegram an hour before the commencement exercises “stating that the Ateneo de Cagayan has now been granted university status.”
• Summer of 1958, Fr. Francisco Z. Araneta, SJ requested Fr. Miguel Bernad, SJ to design a seal.
