problems with experiments

Cards (5)

  • demand characteristics are a cue that makes participants unconsciously aware of the aims of a study
  • investigator effects are anything an investigator does that has an effect on the participants performance outside of what is intended
  • single blind designs are where participants are unaware of the aims of a study or what condition they are receiving
  • double blind designs are where both the participant and the person conducting the experiment are ‘blind’ to the aims or hypothesis
  • experimental realism is where a task is sufficiently engaging to make the participant not pay attention to the fact that they are under observation
