  • 1st Amendment: Prohibits any law limiting freedom with respect to religion, exprssion, peaceful assembly, or the right of citizens to petition the gov.
  • 2nd Amendment: The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed
  • 3rd Amendment: Forbids the forcible housing for military personnel in a citizen's home during peacetime and requires the process to be "prescribed by law" in times of war
  • 4th Amendment: Protects people from unreasonable searches by the gov.
  • 5th Amendment: Protects criminal defendents from having to testify if they may incriminate themselves through the testimony
  • 6th Amendment: Guarantees the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public trial w/o unecessary delay, the right to a lawyer, the right to an impartial jury, and the right to know who your accusers are
  • 7th Amendment: Protects the right for citizens to have a jury trial in federal courts with civil cases where the claim exceeds a certain dollar value
  • 8th Amendment: Excessive bail shall not be required. nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel punishment
  • 9th Amendment: Guarantees that rights that are not specifically written in the constitution may be retained by the people
  • 10th Amendment: Any powers or rights not listed as belonging to the federal gov. then belong to the states and the American people
