Flame tests

• 1. Clean (nichrome) wire loop with conc HCl
  2. Dip into a solid sample of the compound being tested
  3. Put the loop into the edge of the blue flame from a Bunsen burner
• lithium has a crimson flame
• Sodium has a yellow flame
• Potassium has a lilac flame
• Calcium has an orange-red flame
• Copper has a green flame
