Reactions of alcohols

• Halogenation is a reaction whereby a hydroxyl group in an alcohol molecule is replaced by a halogen atom.
• Dehydration is a reaction whereby a hydroxyl group is removed from an alcohol molecule, together with a hydrogen atom from an adjacent carbon atom, forming a C=C double bond.
