NERVOUS SYSTEM

• nervous system - controls all the other organ system
• voluntary - movement that can be control
• involuntary - movements that moves on its own
• Central nervous system - brain and spinal cord, controls all body functions, receives and processes information from sensory receptors
• peripheral nervous system - includes spinal nerves and cranial nerves, sending information from different areas of your body, and carrying commands.
• SOMATIC NERVOUS SYSTEM - controls voluntary muscles
• AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM - controls involuntary activities of the body
• Sympathetic Nervous System - “Fight-or-flight scenarios”; best known for its role in responding to dangerous or stressful situations
• Parasympathetic Nervous System - “Rest-and-digest”; network of nerves that relaxes your body after periods of stress or danger
• Enteric Nervous System - Web of sensory neurons, motor neurons, and interneurons embedded in the wall of the gastrointestinal system
