P1 - thermal insulation

  • method:
    1. wrap foil, paper and bubblewrap around three different beakers
    2. add 100ml of hot water to each beaker
    3. measure starting temperature of each beaker and start stopwatch
    4. every 30 seconds, measure temperature of beaker
    5. after 5 minutes, stop stopwatch and record final temperature
    6. calculate temp change = final temp - original temp
    7. plot graph with time on x axis and change in temperature on y axis
    8. insulation with steepest gradient has largest rate of cooling
